The experience of applying to your new job is something all of us can relate to.
The evolution of job applications can be broadly categorized into 4 categories.
1. Paper applications – Before the advent of the internet this was the most common way of applying for jobs, wherein the applicants would scan through the job listings in daily newspapers and post handwritten applications.
This age of job applications can be also referred to as the golden age of applications, as each of the applications was curated and personalized, to ensure that the applicant has the best chance of securing the job.
The success factor during this era was >50% as each application was personalized.
2. Job Boards – With the advent of the internet, the job boards went digital and was now accessible to a large number of audience instantly.
Although this was an age that made it easier for applicants to search and apply for new jobs, this way of job hunting also inherently brought a lot of changes that can be conceived to be on the not-so-great side of things.
All the personal data of the applicants are available to anybody who is ready to pay a small amount and call themselves a recruiter.
This era also made it very easy for everyone to spam all the applicants.
This era also enabled and encouraged the applicants to spam the recruiters by making it easy to apply to virtually all the jobs on the job boards.
The advent of job boards also paved the way to the “never hear back” after applying.
Job boards typically have a success factor of <5%
3. Evolution into the curated job listings – As a next step in the evolutionary process, the industry disrupters started to curate the list of jobs on the job boards to suit each applicant based on rudimentary AI algorithms.
Although this was an evolutionary next step over the previous era, some of the inherent issues from the previous era were yet to be addressed.
The applicants were still able to apply to all the roles on the job board.
Data on the job boards could still be accessed by anyone posing as a recruiter, by paying a small fee.
The job boards would still continue to spam the users with prospective job lists.
The success factor during this era although better than the previous era was still under the <10% category.
4. The Upgraded way of switching to your new role.
As a process of evolution and upgrading, the next step in the process would need to address the shortcomings of the previous era
Imagine a new way of applying for your next role which provides the following.
Be provided with a list of Jobs that are both curated by AI and your friends.
Ensure that you have access to only verified jobs and recruiters.
Only active applications are on the job boards and all old job postings are automatically disabled or removed.
Always be updated with the latest status on your applications.
Recommend jobs to your friends/colleagues that suit them the best.
Have success criteria always >70%
Everybody we have spoken to on this wants to know who they can hear more about the “upgraded way of applying to a job”.
